Hastings Supports Flood Insurance Relief Bill

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3370, the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2013, which will bring relief to millions of Americans facing sharply rising flood insurance premiums. The legislation passed with bi-partisan support in a vote of 306-91.

"Last night's passage of the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act was a significant victory for homeowners across the country.

"Florida holds nearly 40 percent of the nation's flood policies, and Florida families face some of the most significant effects from increasing insurance rates. For some, premiums have already risen by thousands of dollars. This common-sense fix will bring relief to the families that have been most affected, and help to stabilize the rising tide of flood insurance premiums. It is my hope that the Senate takes up this legislation without delay."
