Issue Position

South Dakota has a strong history of military service. Thousands of South Dakotans have put themselves in harm's way to protect our liberties and freedoms. Many have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our nation safe and secure. Others have returned home wounded. Veterans have earned, and deserve, the benefits they were promised. I support keeping these benefits intact, which is why I have cosponsored legislation to exclude veterans' healthcare from across-the-board spending cuts.

It is also important that we get our veterans back to work when they return home. I was a proud cosponsor of the Veterans Opportunity to Work (VOW) Act, which will help retrain our nation's bravest and improve the Transition Assistance Program. I was very pleased to see this and other legislation become law. It is important we take care of those who have sacrificed so much on our behalf and I will continue to work to take care of them.
