Issue Position: Government and Oversight

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

One of my goals in Congress is to expose and cut out waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government. A unique responsibility given to the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, of which I am a member, is the task of actively investigating and effectively overseeing all areas of the federal government.

I have taken particular interest in the misguided in ill-conceived gunwalking operation by the ATF and Department of Justice known as Operation Fast and Furious, which resulted in the death of ATF agent Brian Terry. Our efforts to investigate this scandal have been repeatedly blocked by Attorney General Eric Holder, who will not release key documents to our committee for review. I will continue to work through the committee and House Leadership to determine what appropriate action should be taken to ensure this matter is thoroughly investigated and those responsible for this program are held accountable.

The Oversight Committee has stood up for taxpayers and held the Obama administration accountable for waste in the executive branch. From the General Services Administration's shameful use of money for an extravagant Las Vegas conference to the bankruptcy of Solyndra which cost the taxpayers $500 million, I have demanded answers and transparency from the administration and made it clear that the days of wasteful "business as usual" spending are over.

The committee has also focused its on eliminating regulations that are currently hindering job creation. Nothing is more important than bringing jobs back to our district and also ensuring that we do not lose the jobs we presently have.
