Issue Position: Tax Reform

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014
Issues: Taxes

I strongly support transforming the U.S. tax code to make it simpler and fairer. It currently is ten times the size of the Bible and contains more than four million words. Its monstrous size, extreme complexity, and excessive rates on families and businesses are hurting job creation and economic growth in Montana and throughout our country. I believe it is time to rewrite it.

One of the highest priorities of the House of Representatives is to reform the tax code. The House Ways and Means Committee (the tax-writing committee) has held numerous hearings over the past few years to prepare for comprehensive tax reform in 2013. I strongly support this effort and will work to ensure that tax reform legislation truly simplifies the code, eliminates loopholes, and invigorates job creation and economic growth.
