Dr. Benishek believes fixing our nation's fiscal problems is all about creating jobs and growing the economy. With far too many people out of work, Dr. Dan knows we need to create more jobs now and help families here in Northern Michigan. He believes we can do this by getting Washington's spending under control so our economy can improve and prosper.

While families in Northern Michigan are strolling to make ends meet, career politicians in Washington are continuing to put our country further in debt by spending money we don't have on wasteful things that don't work. Right now, our federal government is $16 TRILLION in debt. The federal government borrows $.42 cents of every dollar it spends. Every single person in America now owes over $54,000 as a share of national debt. That's all money our children and grandchildren will have to pay back.

This is why Dr. Benishek ran for office for the first time in his life--he was just so worried about what would happen to our children and grandchildren with Washington's ridiculous spending. Dr. Benishek believes both parties--Democrats and Republicans--have been bad stewards of our country's finances. While there is plenty of blame to go around, Dr. Benishek is focused on addressing the problem now and reducing Washington's wasteful spending.

Dr. Benishek believes the best way to control spending is by enacting a federal budget. Dr. Dan has supported budget plans in the House that make tough choices and balance the budget within ten years, without raising anyone's taxes and while protecting Medicare and Social Security for our seniors. Underscoring his position that a budget is essential, Dr. Dan supported "No Budget, No Pay" legislation that would prevent Members of Congress from getting paid if budgets are not passed in the House and Senate.

Dr. Dan supports adding a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution to force Washington politicians to have the government live within its means. Families in Northern Michigan balance their budgets every day--it's time Washington does the same. Dr. Benishek believes hard-working taxpayers deserve a budget plan that creates jobs, grows the economy and gives our kids a shot at a better future.
