Senator Bob Corker is an advocate for strong national security. He believes the safety of our nation's citizens and infrastructure is paramount and must be adequately protected in these times of uncertainty.

Support for Strong Intelligence Gathering Capabilities and Appropriate Surveillance Methods: Senator Corker supported a bill that allows our intelligence services wider latitude in monitoring terrorist communications abroad. Senator Corker supports intelligence gathering systems that protect our country while being mindful of the civil rights of our nation's citizens.

Support for Tough Legal Measures to Punish Terrorists in Our Country: Senator Corker supported an amendment that would make it illegal to recruit people to commit terrorist acts in America and allow the immediate deportation of suspected terrorists whose visas were revoked for terrorist-related activities. This amendment also prevented the release of illegal immigrant felons whose home countries refused their extradition.

Prevent Civilian Trials of Terrorists: Senator Corker cosponsored legislation that would prohibit the use of any funds for the trial of those involved in the 9-11 attacks in federal civilian court.

Support for Secure Ports: Senator Corker supported measures that would prevent people from working in our ports if they have committed certain serious crimes.

Support for National Disaster Preparedness Programs: Senator Corker supported continuing the Oak Ridge Southeast Regional Research Initiative which funds university-sponsored research and development for national disaster preparedness.

Support for State Homeland Security Grants: Senator Corker voted for a bill that would provide $1.1 billion to assist state and local law enforcement and emergency management agencies in protecting against terrorist attack.

Support for Strong Firefighter and Emergency Responder Grants: Senator Corker voted for a bill that would provide $1 billion in state grants to support firefighter and emergency responder grant programs. This funding is imperative to ensure firefighters and emergency responders are well equipped to save lives in the case of an emergency.

Support for Increased Border Security: Senator Corker supported a bill which funded increased hiring of border agents, greater border surveillance technology, physical infrastructure projects along the border, as well as expanded air and marine operations along our borders and coasts.

Support for Effective Communications Systems: Senator Corker has voted for legislation that would increase funding for interoperable communications systems so that different emergency response agencies can effectively communicate during times of emergency.

Support for the 9/11 Commission Recommendations: Senator Corker voted in favor of legislation that would implement the remaining 9/11 Commission recommendations.
