WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA-19), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee and an original sponsor of the bipartisan USA FREEDOM Act, released the following statement today in support of "The Day We Fight Back" protest against overreaching government surveillance programs:
"I stand in unity with the growing chorus of citizens across the country who want secretive mass data collection and surveillance activities against Americans ended," said Rep. Zoe Lofgren. "When Americans spoke out against SOPA, Congress listened. It may take that kind of effort to pass needed reforms like the USA FREEDOM Act. Unwarranted mass collection of Americans data does not make us safer and can impair our Constitutional rights. We can be safe while still complying with the Constitution of the United States."
