House Budget Committee Approves Budget-Process-Reform Bills

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Today, the House Budget Committee approved two bills that begin to fix the broken budget process in Washington: H.R. 1872, The Budget and Accounting Transparency Act of 2014, sponsored by Congressman Scott Garrett; and H.R. 1869, The Biennial Budgeting and Enhanced Oversight Act of 2014, sponsored by Congressman Reid Ribble.

Following the committee's vote, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin issued the following statement:
"Washington is spending too much money, and the current budget process encourages Congress to spend even more. Right now, there's simply too much waste and too little accountability.

"These two bills will improve the budget process. Under these reforms, Washington will have to be honest about the costs of its decisions, and Congress will be able to set priorities. We will spend less time spending money and more time holding Washington accountable.

"I want to thank Congressmen Garrett and Ribble. They've worked very hard on this issue, and they've made the cases for their reforms. So I want to congratulate them on the committee's vote today. I was glad to support both of their bills in committee."
