Issue Position: Efficient Spending and Reducing Waste

Issue Position

While our deficit continues to shrink with each passing fiscal year, our long-term debt obligations continue to go unaddressed but are often kicked down the road. In October 2013, we watched for 16 days how political posturing shut down portions of our Federal Government. S&P estimated the cost to our economy to be $24 billion. Congressman Marlin Stutzman was considered a poster child on the government shutdown and was proud he helped shut our government down. He was quoted as saying "We're not going to be disrespected. We have to get something out of this. And I don't know what that even is." To be efficient in spending, we need to be efficient with how our tax dollars are spent. We need to look at government agencies and reducing redundant programs that overlap services. We need to remove pet projects for politicians and offer accountability and transparency for how tax dollars are spent. Above all else, no more wasteful spending. There are billions in tax money spent wastefully each year. The taxpayer money that is found to be used inefficiently can be reinvested in areas such as education, job creation incentives, Medicaid, or refunded back to tax payers. Another aspect of waste is recovering the estimated $2.7 trillion that has been taken from the Social Security Trust Fund. Reducing waste and reimbursing the Social Security Trust Fund are my top priorities.
