SUPPORTING AND IMPROVING OUR SCHOOLS

Fully Funding Education - Any and all education reforms will fall short without proper resources that will allow schools to stop fighting parents over logistics such as bus fees, full-day kindergarten tuition and increased class sizes. Sheila believes every child in Indiana should have the option to attend full-day kindergarten free of charge. Despite confusing claims from some in Indiana, that is not the case now.

Reverse Cuts to Purdue and Other Colleges -- State government has cut higher education funding again, jeopardizing quality schools like Purdue University and driving up the cost of tuition. Sheila continues to fight for this money to be restored and for the expansion of programs that help lower and middle-income families send their children to college.

Scholarships for Future Teachers -- Sheila supports the creation of a Teach for Indiana scholarship program that would attract the best Hoosier students to a degree in teaching. Our Hoosier children deserve the best Indiana has to offer. In exchange for this scholarship, these future teachers would commit to teach in a low-income, low-performing Indiana school for three years. This will not only make our classrooms better, but this is a proactive step toward stopping "brain drain" in Indiana.
