Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) released the following statement after voting "no" on kicking the can down the road:
"Both Republicans and Democrats have a responsibility to put forward serious reforms that address Washington's out of control spending. However as of late, every time a discussion on spending emerges, Democrats across Washington and particularly in the Senate construct strawmen, cry wolf, and refuse to negotiate.
"Failing to deal with the looming debt crisis only makes decisions down the road even more difficult. Washington cannot continue to stick its head in the sand and ignore what is staring it straight in the face. This legislation not only fails to address the federal government's addiction to spending, it also lacks the reforms necessary to change the nation's fiscal trajectory.
"Success is not kicking the can down the road. Success is having the courage to address the problem in the face of adversity."
