Senator Johnson's Statement on President Obama Signing Farm Bill

Press Release

Date: Feb. 7, 2014

U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today applauded President Obama for signing the Agriculture Act of 2014 into law.

"President Obama signed the farm bill today," Johnson said. "This bill provides certainty to our farmers and ranchers, helps ranchers recover from the Atlas blizzard, continues to feed the hungry, maintains Country of Origin Labeling, and reduces the deficit. It's been a long process and I'm glad that the farm bill is now law. My attention will now turn to ensuring that USDA implements the law in a timely manner and in a way that is good for South Dakota."

President Obama signed the Agriculture Act of 2014 today in Michigan where he also announced a new export and investment initiative, Made in Rural America, which is aimed at helping rural businesses and producers increase exports. The program expands federal resources to help rural businesses and leaders improve investment opportunities and access to new customers and markets abroad.
