Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) released the following statement after learning that H.R. 3370, the Homeowners Flood Insurance Affordability Act, now has 228 sponsors in the House of Representatives. Richmond is a co-author of H.R. 3370 and has led the effort to secure support for the legislation. H.R. 3370 is similar to legislation which passed the Senate two weeks ago with a final vote count of 67-32.

"I'm proud to announce that a majority of Congress has cosponsored our comprehensive bill to fix flood insurance," said Rep. Cedric Richmond. "As of today, the Homeowners Flood Insurance Affordability Act (H.R. 3370), has the backing of 228 members of Congress. With only 218 votes needed to pass this legislation, our bipartisan coalition has reached a rare milestone, guaranteeing that the bill has the support necessary to pass the House of Representatives.

I call on Speaker Boehner to immediately schedule a vote as soon as possible. While we wait, 486,525 policyholders in Louisiana are being crushed by unaffordable flood insurance rates. The time for excuses is over. We will not be denied a vote."
