Statement

Date: Feb. 5, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today welcomed the announcement that International Shipholding Corporation (ISH) is relocating its corporate headquarters back to New Orleans. Founded in New Orleans after World War II, ISH relocated to Mobile, Alabama following Hurricane Katrina.

"I am thrilled to welcome ISH back to Louisiana," Sen. Landrieu said. "Hurricane Katrina caused many businesses to leave our great city, but today, we're one of the fastest growing cities in the country. You don't need any more proof than to see large corporations, like ISH, returning. As one of the largest American-owned shipping companies, ISH will be a great addition to the growing Port of New Orleans, which has a significant impact on our economy throughout the state. I look forward to working with ISH as they make the transition back to New Orleans that will help solidify New Orleans as a global trade hub."
