SOTU Reaction: Unleashing Small Business Will Lift Wages and Opportunity

Statement

House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) released the following statement on the President's State of the Union address:

"During the last five years, entrepreneurial opportunity has declined due to the anti-business policies of this White House. The facts don't lie. The United States has fallen to #20 in rank for "starting a business' after being #4 in 2008. In another ranking of best countries for business, America has fallen from #4 in 2008 to #14 today. This trend must be reversed if we want to return prosperity and opportunity to this nation.

"The state of our union is not as strong as it could be, as millions are unemployed and many have been discouraged from even looking for work. America has slowly added jobs for four years, but not at the pace needed to make up for the 8.7 million jobs lost during the Great Recession. To return our union to one of economic power, we must unleash our small businesses from excessive federal regulatory and tax constraints so the private sector can grow, create jobs, and lift wages and opportunities for all."
