Today, U.S. Rep. George Miller (D-Contra Costa County) highlighted how investments in Community Health Centers, provided under the Affordable Care Act, are helping deliver higher-quality health care to more than 3.2 million patients in California, including many in Contra Costa County.

In an effort to expand the capacity of health centers that serve our communities, the Affordable Care Act includes approximately $11 billion for efforts to strengthen and grow our Community Health Centers, including building new sites and renovating existing health centers. Already, community health centers in California have received more than $647 million in Affordable Care Act funding for these purposes.

Locally, improvements like the expansion of a Contra Costa County health center in Concord to integrate behavioral and physical health care into one location, and more than $138,000 in grants to the County for outreach and enrollment are examples of the Affordable Care Act driving investments in our local health clinics.

"Community health centers across the nation have been the front line in ensuring Americans gain the health insurance coverage they need," said Miller. "The investments driven by the Affordable Care Act allow health centers to meet their immediate needs, increase their staffing capacity, maximize outreach, education, and enrollment efforts, and integrate services to ensure better, more convenient care for beneficiaries."

Increasing access to quality health care services for patients in communities across the country should remain a top priority for lawmakers in Washington. Yet, instead of working to fix the law, House Republicans have voted to repeal the health care law more than 40 times, even shutting down the government to prevent new benefits under the Affordable Care Act, like the greater access to primary care, outreach and enrollment services provided by these Community Health Centers.
