U.S. Senator Mark Pryor, Chairman of the Communications, Technology, and the Internet Subcommittee, released the following response regarding Chairman Wheeler's plan to address 9-1-1 location accuracy at the FCC's next open meeting. In January, Pryor chaired a hearing exploring this issue.
I hear far too often about individuals who are unable to receive the emergency services they need because first responders and law enforcement can't access accurate location data from wireless calls. That's why I've pushed the FCC to re-examine its 9-1-1 location accuracy system. I'm glad Chairman Wheeler has heeded my call to action, and I look forward to working with the FCC to ensure our families can receive the help they need in times of emergency.
