Senator Whitmire is a staunch supporter of basic human and civil rights. He supports equal marriage rights, access to the ballot box, the right to bear arms, and a woman's reproduction rights.

Senator Whitmire continues to take a strong stand for minorities, women, the immigrant community, and the LGBT community.

Senator Whitmire is a vocal critic of predatory lending in Texas and the targeting of poor families. He insists that all families have access to financial assistance without the fear of losing their property, filing bankruptcy, or winding up in never-ending debt.

Senator Whitmire supports policies which ensure fair access to the civil justice system in Texas and protects individuals from being targeted or discriminated against based on prejudices.
