Issue Position

Throughout the 112th Congress I worked diligently to ensure that education legislation is child-centered, locally controlled, and allows Wisconsin to give our children the quality education they deserve.

My wife, DeaNa, and I raised two sons in northeastern Wisconsin, both of whom attended public schools. I spent 23 years coaching high school Volleyball at Appleton East, my alma mater, and I am proud of the quality schools in northeastern Wisconsin.

Education is the key to a child's success and we owe it to our children and grandchildren to provide them with a quality education. In order to give our children the brightest possible future, we must abolish the one-size-fits-all education model and offer families a broad range of educational options.

I also believe that education should be controlled by state and local governments, not by bureaucrats in Washington. School districts should have the flexibility to develop solutions as they see fit. Every child learns in a different way and communities need to have the ability to structure their schools in a manner that will best fit the needs of the children and will allow them to thrive.
