USFWS Reopens Lesser Prairie-Chicken Comments

Statement

Date: Jan. 28, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) issued the following statement following the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's (USFWS) bulletin announcing the reopening of a comment period on a special rule for the Lesser Prairie-Chicken:

"On January 8th, I requested that the USFWS allow additional time for Kansans to submit comments about the potential listing of the LPC as a threatened or endangered species. I am pleased at the news that they have agreed to my request and are again allowing comments. I have heard from concerned farmers, ranchers, landowners, energy companies, and leaseholders about the devastating impact a listing would have on them. With this announcement, Kansans have the opportunity for another 14 days to share their concerns with these federal bureaucrats."

Comments can be submitted at: (http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=FWS-R2-ES-2012-0071-0488). They must be received by midnight (eastern time) on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. A final determination about listing the bird will be released by USFWS by March 31, 2014.
