President Obama Continues to Bully Catholic Nuns

Press Release

Date: Jan. 3, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today the Department of Justice (DOJ) responded to Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor's temporary emergency relief for the Little Sisters of the Poor against the HHS Mandate, requiring the Catholic nuns to pay for abortion drugs, contraceptives, and sterilization. Unlike the DOJ's previous arguments, it insists that the injunction should be lifted because of alleged remedies within ObamaCare. Representative Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) issued the following response:

"The Justice Department's response comes as no shock. It is deeply disturbing that this President and Attorney General are forcefully defending and upholding ObamaCare and its HHS Mandate which directly infringes upon the constitutional rights and religious liberties of people of faith, particularly the Little Sisters of the Poor. This lawless Administration has once again demonstrated it will choose which provisions of ObamaCare it will enforce and which ones it will ignore. In this case, they are willfully choosing to continue their war on Christianity and people of faith. This action is despicable, and it remains my hope that the Court will side with the Constitution and the American people."
