Congressman Carney Statement On FY 2014 National Defense Authorization Act

Statement

Date: Dec. 13, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Carney tonight released the following statement regarding his vote in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act, passed in the House by a vote of 350-69:

"I voted in favor of the FY 2014 National Defense Authorization Act because it represents a reasonable compromise approach to setting our nation's defense policy for the next year. As we continue to wind down our presence in Afghanistan and prepare to face new and complex military challenges in different corners of the globe, it's important that we regularly reevaluate and adjust our defense priorities.

"I'm pleased that this legislation authorizes a pay increase for our troops. Even as we seek to rein in government spending, it's vital that we continue to take care of those who put their lives on the line to defend ours. In this time of partisan politics, I'm encouraged that my colleagues and I were able to come together in a bipartisan way to pass legislation that keeps our country safe."
