LUCAS APPLAUDS SELECTION OF JOHANNS AS AG SECRETARY
December 2, 2004
Washington, D.C.- U.S. Third District Congressman Frank Lucas made the following statement regarding President Bush's announcement today that he has selected Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns to be his Secretary of Agriculture:
"As someone who was raised on a farm and who is the Governor of a rural Midwestern state, Mike Johanns has the background and experience to make a fine Secretary of Agriculture.
"I look forward to working with Secretary-elect Johanns over the next four years on the important issues that face our agriculture economy - such as maintaining the safety and security of the nation's food supply, expanding markets for our agriculture products, and passing the next Farm Bill.
"The President has made a good choice in Mike Johanns. He knows the concerns and issues facing rural America, and he will serve our nation well as Secretary of Agriculture."
