Gov. Perry Requests Presidential Disaster Declaration for Central Texas Flood Damage

Location: Austin, TX

Gov. Rick Perry is requesting a presidential disaster declaration for three Texas counties due to extensive flood damage in Central Texas following the storms that occurred from October 30th to November 1st. The declaration would provide federal assistance to support recovery efforts.

"The severe flood damage in Central Texas has affected the lives of many people and left a devastating financial burden on our local communities," Gov. Perry said. "I urge President Obama to grant this assistance so Texans can continue their recovery and rebuild their homes, businesses and communities."

Specific requests include:

* Individual assistance, including the Individual and Households Program, Other Needs Assistance, disaster unemployment assistance, disaster legal assistance, disaster case management and crisis counseling.
* Public assistance (all categories); and
* Hazard Mitigation statewide.

Last month, the Small Business Administration granted the governor's request to provide disaster assistance to the storm victims, which will enable homeowners, renters and businesses in 11 Central Texas counties to apply for long-term, low-interest disaster loans.
