House Energy and Commerce Committee Member Representative Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) on Monday introduced H.R. 3522, the Employee Health Care Protection Act. H.R. 3522 would help protect employees from President Obama's broken promise that, "If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan. Period." H.R. 3522 would allow health insurance currently available on the group market to continue to be offered, providing the opportunity for Americans who purchase health plans on the group market to keep the health plans they currently have and like.

Reports indicate that five million Americans on the individual health insurance market have already lost their health care plans despite the president's repeated promise. This is why the House of Representatives last week passed H.R. 3350, the Keep Your Health Plan Act to allow plans currently available on the individual market to continue to be offered next year.

"The president and Senate Democrats told Americans that "if you like your health insurance, you can keep it.' That promise should be honored," said Dr. Cassidy. "Last week, the House of Representatives voted to protect Americans who are losing health insurance in the individual market. This week I am introducing the Employee Health Care Protection Act to protect workers who receive health insurance from their employers. This legislation helps protect millions of Americans with employer-sponsored health insurance from President Obama's health law."

Full Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) added, "Despite the president's repeated promise, millions of Americans in the individual market have already received cancellation notices, and we are seeing evidence the next shoe to drop will be group plans. As the White House has made clear, many Americans obtain their health insurance through an employer. They too could see their coverage taken away. President Obama's assertion that Americans with employer-sponsored insurance won't "have to do anything' is just plain wrong. To keep the promise to the millions of workers who stand to lose coverage under the president's health care law, my colleague Dr. Bill Cassidy has introduced the Employee Health Care Protection Act. His bill will simply allow plans currently available on the group market to continue to be offered for sale, helping provide peace of mind to millions of employees who purchase health plans for themselves and their families through their employer."
