Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-IL) released the following statement on the Obama Administration's deal with Iran:
"This deal to weaken sanctions on Iran in exchange for an empty promise to pause its nuclear weapons program is unacceptable. Under this agreement, Iran is allowed to continue enriching uranium, testing long-range ballistic missiles, and maintain support for its terrorist proxies--all while not dismantling a single centrifuge. We must therefore press forward with passing and implementing crippling economic sanctions on Iran so the mullahs must choose between continued isolation and economic collapse, or the further pursuit of nuclear weapons technology."
Last week, Roskam made the case for additional sanctions in an op-ed published in the Naperville Sun and Israel National News, Arutz Sheva (pasted below). Earlier this month, Roskam led a bipartisan letter signed by 63 Members of Congress urging the Senate to pass the House-approved sanctions package without further delay.
