Praising Addition of Automatic Passport Control Kiosks, Ros-Lehtinen Encouraged That Will Ease Congestion at Miami International Airport

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen praised the addition of 36 automatic passport control kiosks at Miami International Airport, only the third airport in the nation to do so. The additions of these kiosks will allow American and Canadian citizens to have their passports processed via an automated kiosk instead of the customary process of a Customs and Border Patrol officer visually inspecting it, allowing officers to be re-assigned to assist in the processing of non-U.S. passengers. This will help ease the effects of the current shortage of Customs and Border Patrol officers at one of the busiest airports in the nation and is projected to reduce the currently long wait times for immigration and customs processing by nearly 30%.

Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

"Miami International Airport serves a dynamic area that is always on the move. At times, the flights mean that a large number of domestic and international passengers can cause delays and require travelers to arrive earlier and earlier at the airport in order to make their flights. The addition of automated kiosks that can securely check passports may help ease congestion and streamline airport operations. This will ensure one of South Florida's largest job creators continues to serve our community well."
