Gov. Heineman Appoints Derek Vaughn of Omaha to Count Court, 4th Judicial District

Gov. Dave Heineman today announced his appointment of Derek R. Vaughn of Omaha to the County Court, 4th Judicial District.

Since 1999, Vaughn has served as Deputy County Attorney in the Douglas County Attorney's Office. In this role, he serves as prosecutor for Drug Court, Young Adult Court and Mental Health Diversion. Additionally, he serves as Adjunct Instructor of Criminal Justice at the University of Nebraska -- Omaha and Midland University.

Vaughn serves on the Nebraska Crime Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, the Nebraska Coalition for Juvenile Justice, the Office of Violence Prevention Advisory Board, the Crime Victims Reparations Committee and the Nebraska Supreme Court Problem Solving Court Committee. Vaughn earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska -- Lincoln and he earned the Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska -- Lincoln College of Law.

The vacancy is due to the retirement of Judge Edna R. Atkins. The 4th Judicial District consists of Omaha in Douglas County
