Shelby Makes Case for More AL Aerospace Jobs

Amid news reports that aerospace giant Boeing is considering Huntsville, Alabama, among sites to build its planned 777X aircraft, U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today led the Alabama Congressional delegation in sending a letter to Boeing Chairman, President and CEO, James McNerney, Jr., underscoring the state's very strong and unique case as the prime location to do the work.

The delegation highlighted Boeing's significant existing footprint in North Alabama, which boasts a business-friendly environment that includes decades of high-tech aerospace expertise, low taxation and cost-of-living, a rational regulatory regime, right-to-work laws, low utility rates, and excellent infrastructure. The letter also points to world-class engineering and science facilities at Alabama's universities statewide that are producing an abundance of highly skilled workers that would be required to fill the jobs created.

Signing the letter with along with Senator Shelby were Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) and Congressmen Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville), Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville), Spencer Bachus (R-Vestavia Hills), Mike Rogers (R-Saks), Martha Roby (R-Montgomery), and Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham).
