A strong public education system is essential to a strong America. I believe that true education reform cannot come from the federal government. The key is taking control away from Washington bureaucrats and giving it back to parents and teachers. Academic standards, standardized testing scores, the criterion by which a school is judged and the solutions needed to fix schools that are not performing should be left up to states and local educators.

I also believe that parents need to be given more freedom to choose their children's education future. We need to increase the opportunities for school choice so that a child can attend a school that best fits his or her learning needs. Education is a cornerstone of life and the more control a parent and the local community has over their child's learning, the better the education system will be.
