Issue Position

Like so many Iowans, I grew up hunting, fishing, and camping with my family. We spent time hiking and enjoying the outdoors, and these experiences taught me that there is a balance to strike between stewardship of the land and making sure that Iowa families are able to have great moments outdoors.

Climate Change

Just like our parents and grandparents passed on a better planet to us, we have an obligation to protect the environment for our children and grandchildren. That's why I supported the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), which promotes renewable sources of energy, like wind and solar. It also helps advance alternative transportation fuels, clean electric vehicles, and the smart grid and electricity transmission.

This common sense approach increases energy efficiency standards across all sectors of the economy, including residences, buildings, appliances, transportation, and industry. It also provides environmental protections to limit the emissions of heat-trapping pollutants and protects US consumers and industry by promoting green jobs during the transition to a clean energy economy.

We must continue to invest in new clean energy technologies and energy efficiency, including and renewable energy, carbon capture and sequestration, electric and other advanced technology vehicles, and basic scientific research and development.

Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus

With nearly 300 members, the bipartisan Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus has grown into one of the largest and most effective caucuses in the US Congress. The caucus is the sportsmen's ally and first line of defense in Washington protecting and advancing hunting, recreational fishing and shooting and trapping. I will continue to work with my colleagues as a Member of the Sportsmen's Caucus to preserve Iowa's open spaces and wildlife.

Mississippi River Valley and Tributaries Caucus

The Mississippi River is a part of our heritage, our economy, and our environment. I am proud to represent the many diverse groups of constituents who live and work throughout the Mississippi River Valley and along its tributaries. The Mississippi River Valley region covers roughly 41 percent of the nation, including 1.25 million square miles, 31 states, and over 250 tributaries.

Agricultural products from the region alone contribute $54 billion annually to the American economy and represent 92 percent of the nation's farm exports. In total, more than half the goods and services consumed by Americans are produced or supplied by water that flows through the Mississippi River and its tributaries. This region is truly the economic engine of our nation. I will continue to work with my colleagues on this caucus to serve Iowans and improve and protect the Mississippi.
