Issue Position: Housing and Foreclosure

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2013

The American Dream is built from hard work - but it's also made of bricks and mortar. As a member of the Congressional Task Force on Housing Stabilization, I am bringing your concerns to Washington, as we conduct a full review of national housing efforts. My goal on this Task Force is to improve programs that have been successful and amend those that are in dire need of changes and improvements. In spite of many programs designed to stop foreclosures, the rates in our district have increased since last year. With nearly 11 million homes worth less than the underlying mortgage, we must do more for hardworking American homeowners who have lost their job through no fault of their own.

I am dedicated to doing everything I can to keep Americans in their homes. It is crucial that affordable housing be available in Atlanta. I will continue to support legislation and programs that encourage mortgage servicer reform, loan modifications, and housing counseling. We cannot lock the door on the American Dream.
