Issue Position: Economy and Jobs

Issue Position

One of the foremost concerns right now in America is how and when our ailing economy will get back on the right path. If spending were the answer, we would be on easy street. We know that it is not and the pattern of continual spending is a serious concern and will be a direct inheritance of our children and grandchildren. I have voted against all bailout attempts, including the Stimulus bill and TARP, or the Troubled Asset Relief Program. I will continue to oppose these programs until the House considers a package that sets attainable goals, creates jobs, and maintains fiscal responsibility.

While the debt crisis has demanded much of our attention, our new majority has passed over a dozen pro-growth measures to address the equally troubling jobs crisis, such as the Energy Tax Prevention Act and the Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act. Aside from repeal of the 1099 reporting requirement in ObamaCare, however, each House Republican jobs bill now sits dormant in the Democrat-controlled Senate. You can view the progress of our jobs bills at MajorityLeader.gov/JobsTracker.

I joined House Republican Leaders in formalizing our plan to create jobs. The pro-growth agenda builds on the GOP Pledge to America, our governing agenda focused on job creation and economic growth. It will address our economic challenges, foster innovation and investment, and help job creators without raising taxes on working families and small business owners.

As with any other issue of concern to you, I hope you'll take the time to let me know how you feel about this issue. To find the best means to contact me.
