Issue Position: Second Amendment Rights

Issues: Guns

Our hearts go out to all the victims of gun violence, including the victims of the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012. That horrible display of violence has left a deep and devastating impact on families and communities across America, and we will never forget the innocent children and brave teachers who tried to protect them.

Everyone, including Congress, has a role to play in preventing any further tragedies. Any discussion on gun control, however, must begin with the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. I have always been a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and firmly believe our Second Amendment rights must be preserved and protected.

The gun debate in America must focus on enforcing existing laws, reforming our mental health laws, and addressing the culture of violence in this nation. Any reasonable reforms and proposals set forward should be thoroughly considered and weighed by Congress.
