Let Americans Keep Their Health Care Plans

Press Release

Date: Nov. 15, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) today voted for legislation to help people keep health care coverage threatened by Obamacare regulations.

The House approved the "Keep Your Health Care Plan Act" by a bipartisan vote of 261-157. The bill is a response to President Obama's discredited pledge that under his health care law, "If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan."

Congressman Bachus said it is important to try to provide immediate relief to people in danger of losing their current coverage. But he emphasized that Obamacare as a whole is fundamentally flawed and ultimately needs to be repealed and replaced.

"Obamacare is one of the biggest political fiascos that I have ever seen. It was always a big government "solution' and we know those do not work. If the President believes things can be fixed by a new website or band-aid tweaks, he is wrong. The basic structure of Obamacare is unsound and the lasting answer is to replace it with common sense reforms that will improve affordability and accessibility without putting federal bureaucrats in Washington in charge of your private health care," said Bachus.

As a result of Obamacare mandates, tens of thousands of families in Alabama and millions of people across the U.S. have been notified that their current health insurance policies will be terminated on January 1, 2014. Many consumers have been shocked by the significantly higher cost of potential replacement policies.

Congressman Bachus voted against Obamacare when it was originally brought to the House floor on March 21, 2010 and has since supported numerous efforts to repeal the law and replace it with common sense, bipartisan reforms.
