U.S. Representative Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) voted yes today to allow American families to keep their existing health care plans in 2014. H.R. 3350, the Keep Your Health Plan Act, passed 261-157 with bipartisan support.
The legislation would allow plans available on the individual market today to again be offered next year. Currently about 8,800 West Virginians will be losing their individual healthcare plans in 2014 under Obamacare.
The legislation would also ensure that Americans keeping their insurance plans would be in compliance with Obamacare's individual mandate and would not have to pay fines.
"The president said years ago that "if you like your healthcare plan, you will be able to keep your healthcare plan.' West Virginians are learning that won't be the case under Obamacare. This law protects families by giving them the choice whether to stay with their current plan -- instead of taking their plans away from them. Healthcare choices are best made by West Virginians, not by the federal government."
