Bachmann and Bass Introduce Bipartisan Adoption Resolution

Location: Washington, DC

Congressional Coalition on Adoption (CCA) House Co-Chairs Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) and Congresswoman Karen Bass (CA-33), co-chairs of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption (CCAI) introduced House Resolution (H.RES) 409, a bipartisan resolution supporting the goals and ideals of National Adoption Month and National Adoption Day in November. This resolution promotes national awareness of adoption, encourages the well-being of every child and recognizes individuals and organizations working with orphans and foster children.

"My husband and I were privileged to raise five biological children as well as open our home to 23 foster children," said Bachmann. "Family plays such an important role in shaping who we are, and there is no replacement for a stable upbringing. Every child needs to know that at least one person is crazy about them. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Congressional Adoption and Foster Youth Caucuses during National Adoption Month and throughout the year to encourage new advocacy on behalf of America's "forgotten children.'"

"Each year, National Adoption Month provides an important opportunity to celebrate our nation's adoptive families and recommit ourselves to the goal of finding stable, loving "forever families' for the more than 100,000 foster youth who are currently waiting to be adopted," said Bass. "Many of these children have been waiting for years to find permanent homes, so it's important that we do all we can to promote adoption and meaningfully improve the lives of our foster youth. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Adoption and Foster Youth Caucuses, I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to promote adoption during this Adoption Month and year round. We all agree that every child deserves a loving home and everyone has a responsibility to do what they can make a lasting difference in the lives of children within the foster care system."

National Adoption Month was first designated in 1995, and National Adoption Day launched in November 2000. National Adoption Day marks the day that agencies, organizations and families come together to complete thousands of foster care adoptions.

Since 1985, the Congressional Coalition on Adoption (CCA) has brought together members of Congress committed to making sure every child in America has a safe, permanent and loving home. With 144 members, CCA is the largest, bicameral caucus in all of Congress.
