U.S. Congressman Bill Enyart (D-IL) announced today that St. Clair County has been awarded $3,866,426 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This includes $3,252,333 through the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program and $614,093 through the HOME program.
The CDBG program provides annual grants to states and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment. CDBG also strives to expand economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate-income families and individuals.
The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low and very low-income families by providing grants to states and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
"Safe, affordable housing will always be a priority in improving the quality of life within our communities," noted Enyart. "This funding will provide St. Clair County additional resources in meeting their housing and community development priorities."
