Norton to Test Drive All-Electric Car as Ranking Member of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Ranking Member of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, will test drive an electric car to learn more about new all-electric transportation technology, at the Long View Gallery, 1234 9th St. NW, today at 9:30 a.m. Norton, who drives a hybrid Ford Fusion, wants to drive an electric car in advance of a series of listening sessions with experts and members she will lead beginning on November 20, as the subcommittee begins to write a surface transportation authorization bill next year. In addition, a hearing on autonomous, or self-driving, cars will be held on November 19.

"I believe that electric cars will be the wave of the near-future and that our surface transportation bill should encourage their development," said Norton. "I can attest that hybrids are good for the environment and for just plain driving, and I suspect that electric cars will be even better."
