Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement regarding health coverage through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA):

"I am pleased to join the health care exchange on January 1, 2014, which will provide health insurance to tens of millions of Americans, and improve coverage for millions of others.

"I voted in favor of the Affordable Care Act, and will go into the exchange as required by law.

"However, after considerable thought and consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Office of Personnel Management (OPM), I believe that my Congressional staff both in Florida and Washington should be treated the same as every other Federal employee, who purchases their health care coverage through the Federal Health Benefit Program (FEHBP)."
