Location: Raleigh, NC

Governor Pat McCrory has proclaimed Monday, November 11 Veterans Day in North Carolina and the month of November as Veterans and Military Family Appreciation Month, encouraging all North Carolinians to take time out of their days to thank a veteran or active-duty service member for their courage to fight for our country's sacred freedoms.

"Our veterans are some of our most treasured assets," said Governor McCrory. "Their service has kept America the land of the free and the home of the brave, and it is an honor to live in such a military-friendly state."

November 11, 1918 marked the final day of World War I, known as "Armistice Day." In 1938, Congress declared November 11 a legal holiday. In 1954, the word "Armistice" was replaced with "Veterans."

The governor also honored the family members of those serving or who have served.

"Military families are resilient and their sacrifices for our country cannot be overlooked," continued Governor McCrory. "Wives, husbands, brothers and sisters, children - they are integral to our strong military presence here in North Carolina."
