Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) visited Community Affairs and Resources Center in Asbury Park, where trained Health Insurance Marketplace Navigators from the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties are available to answer questions and assist families and individuals sign up for health insurance. Pallone visited with the staff and consumers signing up through the new marketplace.
"Because of the new health insurance marketplace, getting the care you need is no longer a privilege -- it's a right," said Pallone. "Choosing a health insurance plan is an important decision, and that's why speaking with a trained marketplace navigator in your community is a valuable tool. I'm pleased to see the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties helping the uninsured or under-insured get the affordable coverage they want and need."
Open enrollment for the new health insurance marketplaces began this month and runs until March 15, 2014. For those who sign up, coverage will begin as early as January 1, 2014. Consumers can apply for insurance through the new Marketplace in four ways: by phone, online at healthcare.gov, by mail with a paper application, or with the help of an in-person assister like the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The hotline phone number is 1-800-318-2596, and it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
