Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement after House passage of the Promoting Adoption and Legal Guardianship for Children in Foster Care Act (H.R. 3205):
"Those who adopt children or serve as legal guardians are doing some of the most important and challenging work there is: raising a child. A stable home environment is critical to a child's development, and that's why I was proud to cosponsor legislation to encourage legal guardianship and adoption."
Rep. Griffin cosponsored H.R. 3205, which passed the House unanimously. It would reauthorize the Adoption Incentives program and extend Family Connection Grants (FCG) through FY2016. The Adoption Incentives program awards money to states for increasing adoptions from foster care, and H.R. 3205 improves the reward structure by incentivizing states to increase adoption rates instead of total numbers. It also creates new award categories for adoptions of children over the age of 14 and children leaving foster care to live with legal guardians.
