Issues: Taxes

The property tax burden for the hardworking families of the 40th District continues to rise. Over the last few years, families have seen a increases in their out of pocket expenses in as a result of reduction in property tax relief.
A few points on property taxes:
Property taxes continue to rise for New Jersey's hardworking families.
In many parts of our district the average property tax bill is higher than the statewide average.
While there is a property tax cap that has held municipal levies in check, New Jersey resident's tax burden has still risen significantly.
The average property tax burden has risen 18.6% since 2009. This is unacceptable.
Additionally, cuts in school and municipal aid from the state have further increased the tax burden middle class families and have seriously disrupted our schools and municipal services.
The 2% property tax cap is a good idea and we support it. We need to make sure that we address the structural issues of high property taxes as well as ensuring that we do provide some relief.
We need to continue to help municipalities and state government become more efficient to stem the tide of tax increases.
