Rep. Negrete McLeod Named a Conferee for the 2013 Farm Bill

Press Release

Date: Oct. 12, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Minority Leader Pelosi named Congresswoman Gloria Negrete McLeod (D-Chino) to serve on the House and Senate conference committee charged with negotiating the final details of the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management (FARRM) Act of 2013. Both the House and the Senate passed their own versions of a Farm Bill earlier this year.

"It is a privilege to serve as a conferee to begin working out the differences between the Senate and the House's Farm bills," explained Negrete McLeod. "I am confident the House and Senate can work in a bipartisan, bicameral, and commonsensical fashion to create an agriculture policy that is good for both American farmers and the nation's hungry."

In her capacity as a conferee, Negrete McLeod will represent the House Agriculture Committee during negotiations with the Senate in order to reconcile legislative differences between the two chambers. Negrete McLeod will play an active role in crafting the final combined bill that will authorize funding for the 5-year Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management (FARRM) Act of 2013.

Conference negotiations begin this week, and will continue until a final bill is agreed upon, passed by Congress, and given to the President for his signature into law.
