Issa to Democrats: Let D.C. Spend Its Local Money Now

Today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., took to the House floor to excoriate Democrats for their steadfast refusal to support legislation that would let the District of Columbia spend its local money.

"The truth is the District of Columbia pulls quarters out of meters every day and they are not going to be allowed to spend that. They receive revenue from building permits, but they are not going to be able to use that money to keep the people that look at the building permits employed," Issa said. "They are being taxed locally. Those monies will build up locally, and you're saying they can't spend it?"

Yesterday, House Democrats defeated the same measure, which needed a two-thirds majority to pass under a suspension of the House Rules used to consider legislation more quickly.
