Fitzpatrick, House Fund Nuclear Weapon Security

Date: Oct. 11, 2013

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) released the following statement Thursday regarding the House's bipartisan passage (248-176) of the Nuclear Weapon Security and Non-Proliferation Act [H.J.Res. 76]:

"As Congress and the Administration begin the process of negotiating a reasonable solution to our current budget impasse, the House took bipartisan action to protect our country by restoring funding to the National Nuclear Security Administration.

The critical program which is responsible for the management and security of the nation's nuclear weapons, nuclear nonproliferation and naval reactor programs should not be at the whim of political time tables and stalled negotiations.

This legislation is just another good-faith effort by the House to lessen the effect of the partial government shutdown. I encourage the Senate and the Administration to act quickly to fund the programs we all know are important."
