Rep. Franks Calls for Justice for the Unborn
February 22, 2005-U.S. Representative Trent Franks noted with regret the Supreme Court of the United States' refusal to hear the appeal of Norma McCorvey, the woman formerly known as Jane Roe. Ms. McCorvey had petitioned the Court to reopen Roe v. Wade and reverse it on its merits. Her case presented specific evidence that abortion is harmful to women.
"The women who have suffered from the tragic repercussions of abortion deserve to have this case overturned. Abortion does not serve to protect women; it deceives them in one of the most insidious ways possible. It says, 'Choose me and you will have a much easier way ahead.' In reality, the depths of despair have not yet been dreamed of until after a mother has walked down the desolate road of hiring another to take the life of her child," said Rep. Franks. "Norma McCorvey learned through her own difficult and painful experience. It is a tragedy that the Court refused to even listen to this evidence, evidence that was purchased at an unimaginably painful price."
Ms. McCorvey's case, McCorvey v. Hill, was considered in judicial conference last Friday, and denied Writ of Certiorari in a decision released today.
"In light of the Court's decision not to take this historic opportunity to right this terrible injustice, it is important to remind ourselves of the grave devastation the decision in Roe v. Wade has brought to bear on individual families and this nation 40,000,000 different times," said Rep. Franks. "Each time, a nameless little baby died a tragic and lonely death, a mother was never the same, and all the gifts that child might have brought to humanity were lost forever. However, I believe this nation is now beginning to truly see abortion on demand for what it is, and will someday soon reverse this unspeakable injustice."
