Johanns Statement on Failure to Pass Temporary Funding Bill

Statement

Date: Oct. 1, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) today issued the following statement after Congress and the President did not reach an agreement on legislation temporarily funding the government past midnight, the end of the current fiscal year:

"The American people deserve more than management by crisis. Now is the time to find a solution. House Republicans sent the Senate a way forward that responsibly gives individuals the same reprieve from the burdens of Obamacare that the President has given corporations. However, Americans elected a Republican House and a Democrat Senate. Both sides must come to the table - as House Republicans have done - in order to pass a responsible bill that respects the budget caps set in law, which is the first step in addressing our crippling debt."
