Congressman Bachus Escorts Veteran Through WWII Memorial

Statement

Date: Oct. 1, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) issued the following statement today after escorting Veteran Raymond Stanley, who was born in Henry County, Alabama, through the World War II Memorial, which had been closed by the National Park Service due to a lapse in federal appropriations. Raymond Stanley entered the Army in 1943 and served two and a half years in England, France and Germany.

"The America that I have known would have welcomed our WWII Veterans with open arms and spared no effort to make their tour of the monument as pleasant and honorable as possible. For them to be greeted by barricades is not the America that our forefathers left us."
